Like millions of other American families, you may be planning to relax for a couple of weeks this summer in a vacation home.
And if it's not your own second home, you may be thinking about purchasing one.
Owning a vacation home is a steadily increasing trend.
There are now more than 6 million second homes owned by families and individuals in the United States.
And the number of vacation homes is increasing as we move into the summer months.
By way of definition, a vacation or second home (for statistical purposes) is classified as for seasonal, occasional use, whose owners usually reside elsewhere.
Included in this category are units occupied on a part-time or seasonal basis by renters.
