Article: FIRST KING SET QUITE A PACE IN JOLIET AREA BOWLING

It all began with legendary Cliff Tolle. He was the first king of Joliet Area Bowling back in 1957.

So too, was a Tolle inaugural honor, being inducted into the first Greater Joliet Area Bowling Hall of Fame in 1979, bestowed with nary a doubt in anyone's mind.

The 42nd king will be crowned at the 20th Hall of Fame dinner Oct. 2. With the event fast approaching, recounting Tolle's fabulous feats is in order, to remind those who had fond dealings with him and to educate the younger bowlers, since he passed away Sept. 18, 1983 at the age of 78.

Although that first Tolle Hall induction was in the past performance category, he was crowned king two more times, in 1966 and 1967.
