CREST HILL -- A group representing some Will County municipalities is considering resurrecting a county gas tax for road improvements. Jamy Lyne, a program specialist with the Will County Governmental League, told the group's transportation committee Wednesday at the Crest Hill City Hall that a county gas tax could help municipalities.

The group had just reviewed a list of funding priorities for road projects spanning 2000 to 2006. The projects will be funded in part from the group's share of federal highway funds.

But Lyne said not enough money is available for all of the projects, and the group expects to borrow against future allocations to get some projects done more quickly.
