Article: RISING RIVER CREATES SMALLMOUTH BASS BONANZA FOR SHORE ANGLERS

There's no mistaking we're in the middle of a drought, but last week's welcome rains provided the bonanza that Fox River shore anglers have been waiting for. Rains during the third week of April pushed the Fox River over its banks, and by Easter weekend hundreds of savvy anglers were lining those banks in search of smallmouth bass and other gamefish.

I sampled the river last Friday and caught and released three smallies up to 17 1/2 inches in one hour's fishing.

On Saturday I caught and released eight more smallies between 10 and 14 inches in a two-hour effort.

All fish were caught within one-foot of the shoreline.
