Article: BOARD DENIES EDWARD HOSPITAL BID FOR HEART HOSPITAL

NAPERVILLE -- Edward Hospital officials will weigh their options about whether to continue to pursue building a heart hospital here after losing their second attempt Thursday to persuade state regulators of the need for such a facility. The Illinois Health Facilities Planning Board voted against Edward Health Service Corp.'s plans to construct a smaller version of its previously proposed heart hospital.

In its vote Thursday, the 15-member hospital regulatory board issued an intent to deny the certificate of need sought by Edward for the project. Eight votes were needed to approve the project; five members voted yes, four voted no and three voted present.
