Republican George W. Bush could be the first presidential candidate in more than 100 years to lose the country's popular vote and still garner enough electoral college votes to become president. Who really knows, however, if he actually lost the popular vote?

That's one of many questions asked by Northern Illinois University political scientist Gary Glenn.

Considering that nearly 100 million people voted Tuesday, the fact Democratic candidate Al Gore leads the popular vote by less than 200,000 votes doesn't necessarily make him the hands-down winner, Glenn said.
