Article: FERMILAB TO HELP BUILD SWISS LAB

BATAVIA -- American research and money are going into development of a particle accelerator in Europe which will surpass Fermilab in Batavia as the premier high-energy physics lab, for one basic reason: You snooze, you lose.

The U.S. Department of Energy signed an agreement Monday to contribute $531 million to development of the Large Hadron Collider in Switzerland, even though construction of the facility means groundbreaking scientific discoveries will take place off American soil and half a world away from Fermilab.
