Article: FORMER ELKS CLUB STILL STANDS AS ARCHITECTURAL WONDER

AURORA -- The distinctive, Mayan-influenced building at Stolp Avenue and Benton Street was known to generations of Aurorans as the Elks Club. Named to the National Register of Historic Places in 1980, it is one of only two Mayan-style buildings in the United States, and is the most distinctive building in downtown Aurora.

Its most recent incarnation was as the Riverwalk Inn, which included restaurants and bars and a jazz club.

Although the building is closed now, the original owners of the Riverwalk Inn might reopen the historic building.
