GENEVA -- There are 39,000 registered voters to keep track of in Aurora -- but is this a big enough task to warrant the city having its very own election commission?
Some elected officials in Kane County don't think so -- and a petition drive is in the works to create a referendum on the November ballot to abolish the election commission.
"People want to know if we could do a better job of spending those tax dollars," said Kane County Board Member Bill Wyatt, R-Aurora.
The duties of the Aurora Election Commission mirror those of the Kane County clerk's office.
Both offices are responsible for counting ballots on election night, training election judges and setting up polling places.
