Article: DOWNTOWN DISTRICT HOPE FOR THE FUTURE

After years of tossing taxpayer dollars by the hundreds of thousands toward dubious projects promoted as seed for a reborn downtown, Aurora aldermen finally have a chance to do something that just might work. Best of all, it won't cost the taxpayers a dime.

All the city must do -- starting with a committee meeting tomorrow evening -- is create a downtown entertainment district in which holders of certain liquor licenses will be permitted to stay open late.

There has been much heat -- but little light -- ever since the plan to open access to a special, 4 a.m. license -- and a subsequent compromise of 3 a.m. -- went public.
