Chris Cudworth -- Summer is definitely the season for snakes in Illinois.
As creatures that crave warmth from the sun, snakes are reptiles that need sunlight to warm their bodies and are most active from June through September.
People who fear snakes wish there weren't a good season for snakes.
The fear of snakes is known by no less than four terms -- ophidiophobia, ophiophobia, ophiciophobia and herpetophobia.
The phenomenon of the fear of snakes is a very real one.
