OSWEGO -- Although an Oswegoland Park District attorney refutes even the suggestion that a former landfill at the Saw-Wee-Kee Park has contaminated soil and groundwater there, park officials are still holding cleanup talks with the Illinois attorney general's office. A lawsuit by the attorney general filed in late June alleged numerous violations of state environmental laws by the Park District over the past 30 years, and asked the court to require local officials to pay for remediation and monitoring or face hundreds of millions of dollars in fines.
