• The office: The DuPage County Board Chairman, elected countywide, presides over the County Board and supervises the implementation of the board's policies. The chairman prepares meeting agendas, proposes an annual budget and makes committee assignments.

The chairman also serves as the liquor control commissioner for unincorporated areas of the county.

The chairman is elected to a four-year term and the job will pay $79,807 next year.

The incumbent, Gayle Franzen, resigned in April to take a job in the private sector and District 5 Board member John Case has been interim chairman.
