St. Joseph Church, 722 High St., Aurora, will be celebrating its 100th anniversary during 1999. The celebration will begin with a special Mass at 10:30 a.m. Sunday in which Bishop Doran from Rockford will participate.
A reception will be held at 1 p.m. at North Island Center, 8 E. Galena Blvd., followed by dinner and entertainment.
Tickets are $20 each and are available in advance by calling (630) 844-3780.
St. Joseph Church was originally built in 1899, with the first Mass being offered on Oct. 1, 1899, by Fr. Carl Schnueckel, then pastor of St. Nicholas Parish in Aurora.
Fr. John F. Schmitt, Fr. Schnueckel's assistant, was appointed pastor of St. Joseph Parish on Feb. 1, 1899. ...
