The Illinois Appellate Court has overturned the 1992 murder conviction of an Aurora man, sharply criticizing Kane County prosecutors for withholding information favorable to the defendant and allowing state witnesses to lie on the stand.
But David Akemann -- who became Kane County State's Attorney a few months after the murder trials of the man and a co-defendant -- disputed the higher court's ruling and the allegations that his office made any deals with witnesses in exchange for perjured testimony.
In a 2-1 ruling, the 2nd District Appellate Court last week ordered a new trial for Brian Corey Torres in the 1990 slaying of Dennis Evans, 18, of Aurora.
