Depression is one of the U.S.'s most endemic afflictions.
More than 17 million Americans can suffer from various forms of depression in a given year.
Undiagnosed depression can lead to long-term disabilities, neglect of other health problems, and, most dangerous of all, suicide.
And yet depression itself is a hard illness to diagnose and treat.
