NORTH CHICAGO -- Christian Fellowship Church is returning to Sheridan Road outside Great Lakes Naval Training Center.
A special-use permit allowing the church to operate a center for Navy personnel at 2134 Sheridan Road, the location of its former mission, was approved unanimously Monday by the North Chicago City Council.
"I think it's a great idea," said 3rd Ward Ald. Andrew Franklin.
"That area is dominated by clubs and liquor stores."
"It's a very wholesome activity," said 2nd Ward Ald. Sam Merritt.
"It's good for the Navy and good for the community."
The two-story building is vacant now, said owner Jack Yu of Lake Bluff.
The church will use the first floor, he said.
