Afterschool Club helps needy kids with Operation Red Stocking Is this the Afterschool Club ... or is it the North Pole?

Where once students gathered at Copeland, Butterfield, Hawthorn, Grayslake, Hooper, Pleviak, Big Beach and Thompson after school to play and study, groups of bustling elves are now busily at work, creating hundreds of cheery red Christmas stockings adorned with glitter, sequins, foam paint and other decorations.

But wait -- some of those elves look awfully young.

And some of them are wearing distinctive Afterschool Club T-shirts.

What magical thing is happening here?

What's happening is Operation Red Stocking.
