Instead of first-degree murder, a Mundelein teen-ager accused of choking his father to death has been charged with involuntary manslaughter.
Dennis Lortie, 18, was indicted on the less serious charge Wednesday by a Lake County grand jury.
He was held overnight in the Lake County Jail in lieu of bail, 10 percent of a $500,000 bond, but that amount could be reduced at a hearing today.
Lortie was charged with first-degree murder immediately after the June 26 incident.
Assistant State's Attorney Stephen Scheller said interviews with Mundelein police and a review of incident reports led prosecutors to seek an involuntary manslaughter indictment.
