Article: BASEBALL CARDS AN EMOTIONAL INVESTMENT, NOT A FINANCIAL ONE

Sitting next to a carton of Valvoline motor oil in my garage is a cooler-sized box of valuable items I began accumulating in the 1970s. Actually, these little biodegradable beauties would have been worth something had I sold them 15 years ago, when the market was hot, but I decided to hold on to them as a long-term emotional investment.

Today, after a volatile decade in the sports memorabilia market, my 3,000 Topps baseball cards have officially been reclassified as junk.

I went to the mall recently to pick up the latest Tuff Stuff price book ("The No. 1 Guide to Sports Cards and Collectibles," it boasts on its cover) and learned my Mays, Aaron, Ryan and Rose cards are basically worthless.
