Nicor Inc. recently dispatched a mercury decontamination team to Naperville for the first time, following the discovery of the toxic element in a house here. "Low levels of mercury" found during an inspection of the house were cleaned up by decontamination experts, Nicor spokesman Craig Whyte said.

Whyte, citing company policy, refused to say where the house was located or how many people live there.

He did not know the date of the mercury discovery or when the house was decontaminated.

The building was not quarantined and its occupants were allowed to continue living there, Whyte said.

He refused further comment.
