Article: LAKE WATER BENEFITS MAY TRICKLE ACROSS TOWN LINES

Mokena's passage of the recent Lake Michigan water referendum may end up actually benefiting New Lenox residents. Previously voter-approved lake water in New Lenox is destined to arrive in the community sometime during 2001. The cost for that water is $3.85 per 1,000 gallons, compared to Mokena's $3.96 estimated charge.

However, New Lenox village administrator Russ Loebe said his community's Lake Michigan water rates were based on "going it alone," without either Mokena or Frankfort.

Frankfort residents turned down lake water in a recent referendum.

Now, the addition of Mokena to the pipeline may make lake water cheaper in New Lenox, although that decision has not been made.
