It was obvious on Saturday how much of an indelible mark that Jeff Wirtz, killed in a car accident along with classmates Sean O'Donnell and Stephanie Ramos on Jan. 15, left on the Benet boys' swim team. Each swimmer wore a "Remember Jeff Wirtz" T-shirt at the Downers Grove North Sectional as a way of honoring their fallen teammate.

And perhaps it wasn't just coincidence that the squad had a solid day, qualifying all three relays and two individuals for this weekend's state meet.

"I think they really managed to deal with it very well, where it's not on the forefront of their minds, but they've dealt with it just as people, not necessarily as swimmers or team members," Benet coach Lance ...
