Q: I've heard that it's not always easy to tell a migraine from a chronic sinus infection.
Is this true?
A: It's difficult to differentiate between a migraine, sinus condition or an allergy that causes nasal congestion just from the symptoms.
That's why it's important to let a physician -- whether it's a primary care specialist, allergist, otolaryngologist or neurologist -- diagnose and treat the problem.
In addition to an extensive medical history and physical exam, a CT scan of the nasal area may be needed to rule out a chronic sinus infection and make an accurate diagnosis.
