The coldest and darkest part of the year, where fire and light play an important role, has given us some long-lived traditions.
The centuries-old custom of bringing home the Yule Log hearkens back to the winter solstice and is still re-enacted in medieval pageantry, this year at 2:15 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 27, during the 19th annual Yuletide Celebration at Morton Arboretum in Lisle.
