Article: RING IN THE BELL TOWER

Brookdale School students spent Monday counting money; money they had donated themselves over the last few months to help build a bell tower. Kindergarten students counted in increments of 10 cents.

When fifth-graders took their turn, they counted $5 stacks.

When the school day ended and all 23 classes had participated, U.S. Mint bags filled with pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters littered the floor around the school's Millenium Bell, and still there was a pile of money left to count.

The money was gathered and taken to a local bank.

On Tuesday, the students learned they had collected $1,648.40.
