Pirate ships, cannons and horse-drawn trolleys will be common sightings in Plainfield this weekend. Strawberries will be another.

Though earlier than years past, it's time for MainStreet's Strawberry Fest once again.

Saturday, May 22, from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. and Sunday, May 23, from 12 to 5 p.m., strawberry connoisseurs will be able to sample strawberry shortcake and other strawberry-themed fare.

"It started about 10 years ago and it was just a cutesy, fun thing to do," says Susan Bostanche, Strawberry Fest chairperson.

"Strawberry shortcake was something that everyone really liked."

Red berries and shortcake aside, other food and entertainment is planned for the weekend, too.
