How shall we celebrate Memorial Day? We could celebrate it in the way it was originally intended -- as a time for remembering soldiers who died in the Civil War. Yet, except perhaps for those involved in Civil War reenactments like that held recently at Naper Settlement, people today do not see the Civil War as having ongoing significance in their lives. How shall we celebrate Memorial Day? We could celebrate it as a time for remembering those who died serving our country in all the armed conflicts in which we have fought.
