Article: PERMIT PROBLEMS STALL FIRST SECTION OF DUPAGE RIVER BIKE TRAIL CONSTRUCTION

Everything was ready to move forward with construction of the first segment of the DuPage River Trail -- except DuPage County. Construction on the trail was scheduled to begin Monday.

But Nan Newlon, assistant director of public works, said the project will be delayed at least a week.

"We need to get some permitting issues resolved," Newlon said.

"We will know more in the next couple of days."

She said the still-to-be-issued permit from DuPage County allows construction along a floodplain or wetlands.

The permit is necessary because the Naperville segment runs along the river.

Newlon said the city applied for the permit and is awaiting approval.
