Article: Desire for personal improvement sparks growth in martial arts

When many people think about martial arts, big-screen action thrillers might come to mind. Hollywood has capitalized on the martial arts through major stars such as Jackie Chan, Bruce Lee and Chuck Norris, as they exhibit death-defying stunts en route to defeating their adversaries in the classic battle of good versus evil.

Most people wouldn't think of Bryan Harison.

He is a 29-year old case manager from Genoa, Ill., and who has a black belt in karate, Muay Thai and American kick-boxing, the later two of which he achieved after having both of his legs and his right arm amputated upon almost being electrocuted when he was 19.
