Article: Plano OKs transition fees to ease growth burden

PLANO -- The City Council held a public hearing Tuesday on the fiscal impact of development on schools and approved an ordinance establishing fees to ease the burden. The new ordinance requires developers to pay a fee of $2,000 per residential unit for each building permit issued.

The fee will go directly to the School Board treasurer to be used at the discretion of the board.

Roger Dahlstrom and John Lewis, from the Center for Governmental Studies at Northern Illinois University, explained their study -- a projection of the financial impact that the proposed City Acre Properties would have on the Plano School District.
