Article: Vernon Hills police helps needy kids

The holiday season started off on a great note for almost two dozen kids, thanks to a program involving the Vernon Hills Super Kmart store, the Vernon Hills Police Department and the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge No. 34. Twenty-two Vernon Hills-area children, ranging in age from 3 to 12, met at Super Kmart on Dec. 2 to participate in the Needy Children's Shopping Spree.

In addition to having breakfast with Santa, each youngster received a wrapped present and $35 worth of free merchandise of their choice.

The event is part of Super Kmart's national Holiday Outreach Programs.
