Gov. George Ryan and Health and Human Services Secretary Tommy Thompson used a joint appearance Wednesday before a health care conference to promote organ donations.
Thompson said there are 76,000 people nationwide waiting for an organ donation, adding that three people die every two hours because of the lack of adequate numbers of donated organs.
"We can do better," he told an audience of health care executives.
Thompson praised Illinois' organ donor program, calling it the most successful in the country.
