Lauren Wohlrab, 9, of Naperville, threads the sewing machine before starting her project while Kathy, of Kathy's Sewing Studio, helps another student. -- Frankie Brogan, 11, of Naperville, examines some cloth he is hoping to make into boxer shorts. Frankie participates in open sewing time at Kathy's Sewing Studio in Naperville.
They came bearing material, thread, trimming and, most importantly, ideas.
The students were ready as was their teacher, seamstress Kathy Embry.
Colleen Filipek, 9, was the first to arrive.
She laid out her shopping bag carefully, a Harry Potter print, backing to match and batting to sandwich in between.
A wall hanging was the order of the day.
