The final day of last weekend's U.S. Open golf tournament was anything but the thrilling six hours it promised to be following the completion of the third round.

Eight players stood within five shots of the lead, including the game's hungriest and most accomplished golfers without major wins -- Phil Mickelson, Sergio Garcia and David Duval.

With Tiger Woods nine shots back and needing a Johnny Miller-like miracle just to make it interesting, this was the time for one of these young, and long overdue, talents to rise up and seize his first major championship.

Instead, we were treated to a final-round implosion by all three.
