Article: Trustees ponder lake water switch

There is good news and bad news about the village's potential switch from well water to Lake Michigan water. While the village would save a significant amount of money by switching to lake water, customers would probably see their water bills double from what they are now.

However, bills would probably also increase if the village is required to treat the well water for radium, said Allen Persons, director of public works.

Lake water has no radium or iron and is considerably softer than well water, which eliminates the need for chemical treatment and water softeners.

But higher quality water apparently comes at a price.
