Al Baysek of Naperville drags the ceremonial yule log back to the visitors' center at Morton Arboretum during Saturday's annual hunt. -- Participants in the annual yule log hunt at Morton Arboretum trudge along the grounds last Saturday. According to tradition, the log is dragged back to a bonfire after it's found, where half of it is burned and the other half is saved for next year's fire.
Deep within the frozen landscape of Morton Arboretum, the yule log lay hidden, waiting to break free of winter's frosty grip.
Last Saturday afternoon, along the area known as the Inner Loop, searchers checked every grove and gully in hopes of being the first to find the ceremonial log.
