Blowing a lot of smoke in Gurnee We were sitting outside on the deck on one of the first nice evenings of spring.

There was a heavy smell of smoke in the air.

"I thought it was illegal for outside fires in Gurnee," my husband remarked.

We looked over at the neighbor's yard where flames were curling several feet in the air.

"It's a fire pit," I said.

"A fire pit," he mused.

"It sure smells like they're burning leaves and wood."

"They are," I told him.

"And it's in a metal fire pit?"

"Yep," I told him.

He was catching on quickly.

"So, If we had a fire pit I could clean up the yard and burn the waste, right?"

"Yep," I told him.

"What else could you do? You'd need fuel for the fire ...
