ELGIN -- The Elgin Symphony Orchestra, one of the fastest-growing symphony orchestras in the United States, has seen subscriptions grow by about one-third over the last six years.
The area's growth and an award- winning conductor certainly have helped, but marketing and business decisions also can be cited for the ESO's financial crescendo.
"Part of the reason we've done it is because we don't think like a small orchestra," said Executive Director Michael Pastreich.
This summer, the ESO -- and possibly some other area arts groups, including Elgin Community College and the city of Elgin's Hemmens Cultural Center -- might find themselves in the company of a handful of big-name fine- arts ...
