Four of five nursing homes in three Chicago-area counties failed to meet federal standards for care during recent inspections, sometimes letting patients suffer from bedsores and malnutrition, according to a report released Monday.
The report, commissioned by U.S. Reps. Jan Schakowsky, Bobby Rush and Rod Blagojevich, gives the Illinois Democrats ammunition for planned federal legislation to establish staffing requirements for nursing homes receiving Medicare or Medicaid funding.
