Gilberts loses longtime public servant with Geier's death zB1 By Peter Denk STAFF WRITER GILBERTS -- Rudy Geier devoted much of his life to serving the community he lived in for 40 years.

When he died late last week after a three-year bout with emphysema, Gilberts lost a man who donated countless nights to pouring over village zoning maps and was willing to jump up from a holiday meal to answer a fire call.

"When there was a fire, the phone rang in our kitchen," said Geier's daughter, Rose Grant.

"I remember Thanksgiving meals when Dad would jump up from dinner and leave the table.

That's what it meant to him to serve the public."
