National Register designation expected STAFF WRITER DUNDEE TOWNSHIP -- The details have become jumbled with time and age, but one of the last remaining customers of a cultural landmark is firm on one aspect of the Country Tea Room.

You went in because you would have chicken only," recalled Frances Gresko, whose wobbly 89-year-old memory is missing chunks of what at the time would have been an adventurous daylong event.

She also remembers the view in the late 1920s and early 1930s: nothing but trees between the front of the old farmhouse and adjoining Illinois 25, a ribbon of commerce and a perfect example of how the open road changed American lifestyles.
