Area organizations and institutions have announced a schedule of flu shot clinics for October and early November.
The federal Centers for Disease Control recomment flu shots for people age 65 and older; for those who smoke tobacco products; for children, from 6 months to 18 years, who are receiving long-term aspirin therapy; for people with heart disease, diabetes and other chronic conditions as indicated by a physician; adults and children with underlying medical conditions, and caregivers.
People who should not get a flu shot include:
• Those known to be sensitive to influenza vaccine or thimerosal.
• Persons with an allergy to eggs or latex.
