(BOLD-FACE)Another taxing thing:(REG. TYPE) As if officials there didn't have enough things to worry about, Community Unit School District 220 will hold a public hearing Jan. 6 regarding an application from the Thomas Jefferson Charter School Foundation for the creation of a charter school in the district.
Charter schools are supported by public school districts but operate autonomously.
The application seeks construction of a new school, but the district already is in a financial mess, with its bond rating reduced and a red alert sounding for its bottom line.
The foundation has submitted proposals to 11 districts to start charter schools.
