Article: City's proposes property tax levy

A decrease in income, sales and property taxes this year resulted in a proposed 5-cent increase in the property tax rate, according to the proposed 2001 tax levy for St. Charles. At the Nov. 19 Government Operations Committee meeting, City Administrator Larry Maholland outlined what the city would be requesting in tax money.

"We planned on an increase by 10 cents, but that was reduced to 5 cents just because of the (economic) climate right now and what's happened to the city in general," Maholland said.

With the 5-cent increase, the property tax rate would be 60 cents per $100 of equalized assessed valuation.
