Every year, as our extended family sits down to Christmas dinner, there is a moment that we raise our glasses in a toast to everyone who is present and to those who have passed on.
Although it has been several years since my father passed away, I always feel an intense sadness at this moment.
The part that bothers me the most is not my loss, but his.
I imagine how proud and happy he would be to be sitting at the head of the table surrounded by his children and grandchildren.
It seems so unfair that he can't be with us.
I'm sure there are many others who feel the loss of a family member or friend this holiday season.
