Article: Wood stumps locally as Elgin officially joins Main Street program

Lt. Gov. Corinne Wood gestures while visiting Elgin on Tuesday, where she officially announced that the city has been designated a Main Street community. The Illinois Main Street program offers communities help in revitalizing their downtowns. In Elgin, the Main Street program will be administered by the Downtown Neighborhood Association.

ELGIN -- Being one of the state's Main Street communities will mean more to the city than a roadside sign, Lt. Gov. Corinne Wood says. Preservation, vibrancy and the setting of a standard that other cities can strive for is what the designation represents, she said.
