Last month, Plainfield Police Chief Don Bennett sent a letter to the Illinois Department of Transportation with a request he believed would help alleviate the heavy truck traffic rolling down Lockport Street.
Bennett asked the state if truck traffic using Route 30 could be re-routed north on Route 59 to the intersection with Route 126, then use Route 126 to travel west to Route 30. The corners on the route Bennett proposed are easier for trucks to navigate, he said, and the downtown area would get a break from the truck traffic.
Monday, the chief got a response from IDOT that he said surprised him a little -- the department agreed with him.
