WEST DUNDEE -- West Dundee will pay for East Dundee to increase the size of its wastewater treatment plant.
Through an agreement approved by the two village boards at recent meetings, West Dundee will be able to increase the amount of sewage it can transmit and treat to a maximum of 800,000 gallons a day at the East Dundee plant, West Dundee Village Manager Joe Cavallaro said, and East Dundee will have room to grow.
The agreement means that East Dundee's wastewater treatment plant, on Elgin Avenue, will be expanded to treat 1.15 million more gallons of wastewater per day -- paid for by West Dundee.
Estimates put the addition's cost at $4.8 million.
