Sunday is Mother's Day, the one day of the year every person on Earth is eligible to celebrate without regard to nationality, race, religion or sexual orientation. When one thinks about it, isn't it amazing that what life all boils down to is that each human being has a mother -- a woman who brought him or her into being? This has the potential to be a great unifying factor in this world where there is so much that divides us.

It is the one thing, at least for now, that we all have in common.

So this is the day that we celebrate this special person.

I am not such a cock-eyed optimist that I'm not aware that there are people who have been abandoned by their mothers or even physically, ...
